A Peek into the SHE Invest Course

SHE Invests recently launched their five-part course. In the first event, attendees walked away with deeper knowledge about key principles and a new lens to for making sustainable and impactful investing.

To kick off the SHE Invests Course, SHE partnered with Grieg Investor, an investment consultancy firm with offices in Oslo, Stavanger and Trondheim. Their focus on sustainability and transparency has garnered a sterling reputation in Norway’s investment sector, with many of their clients having been with them for over 15 years.

Fredrik Wilander of Grieg Investor started off by defining the differences and benefits of investing versus saving. A key difference being if you depend on savings in the bank, it is almost impossible to maintain long-term purchasing power with cost of living increases. If you have loftier financial goals beyond just saving, strategic investing will create that desired substantial growth.

Your personal interests will have a profound effect on the direction you steer your portfolio. Fredrik offered this piece of advice when evaluating new ventures, “An investment doesn’t need to be spicy; it needs to be sensible.”

His many years of experience come to light when he adds, “When a client chooses a stock they don’t feel confident or excited about, the first time it does poorly, they want to dump it.”

Therefore, you should instead invest in companies that reflect your personal interests and are sensible. Ultimately, they should have a potential for growth that you’re willing to invest not only money, but patience into. How a company innovates can guide some of your direction, and you’ll quickly see that sustainability is another important facet to have researched in order to feel confident the company has a future worth backing.
